Last week I spent the whole weekt for our first blog session.It was a good session.Since I am only doing Ctd this year I will thank God for and opportunity to repeat it because this time around my interest for construction and detailing was evoked by the exercises we did.We were asked to build a 1:20 model of a steel house structure called House Venter. The house is a welded hallow steel section frame filled with 290x140x390 concrete blocks and covered with corrugated iron sheet for the roof structure.These are the pictures of the House.

AN INTERVIEW WITH GLEN MURCUTT Glenn Murcutt |
| How has computer technology affected your design process? | It hasn't done a single thing. | |||
| Do you have a favourite architectural website? | I prefer a spiders web. | |||
| What gets you in the right mood to design (eg. music, places, etc) ? | Fear, absolute silence, the place doesn't matter.This quote was given to me after my lecture at Architalx, Portland Museum Of Art , Maine USA"There is something inherently quiet about the place and the men who designed it. In explaining their philosophy about living and working in one place, Mr. Smith paraphrased a Zen Buddhist text saying he once heard in Japan:"The real master in the art of living makes little distinction between his art and his leisure,'"he said. "He simply pursues his vision of excellence in whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he is always doing both"". | |||
| If you weren’t an architect what would you be? | I'd be trying to be one... or an ecologist. | |||
| Are there any materials you particularly like to work with? | all : you have to understand the nature and the preciousness of all materials, I like a combination of metals, concrete, timber, masonry and stone. | |||
| Are there any colours you particularly like to work with? | White, black, shades of black and nature material colours. | |||
| What is your favourite Australian building | Love everything that's good. Vernacular architecture, early : Paddington (in spite of bad planning), and love the work of fine modern architects. | |||
| What is your favourite overseas building(s)? | The http://www.pritzkerprize.com/pritzpho.htm work of Sverre Fehn Alvar Aalto Sigurd Lewerentz Gunnar Asplund Alvaro Siza Renzo Piano Roland Simounet. | |||
| Define the qualities of a good Client? | Good clients must : be demanding about excellence, so they must know what excellence is, give the architect room to move, have a budget that's sufficient but not lavish, understand an architecture of the essential, allow the architect time and allow a sense of evolution. | |||
| Define the qualities of a good Architect? | The work shows that, others must judge. | |||
| Are your doodles architectural? | I rarely doodle, I fiddle with my fingers. | |||
Yesterday was my first day at work.I am doing my internship at Revel Fox architects and Partners.Yesterday was just introductions to the friendly dedicated staff members and the work that the office is currently doing I didn't do much but I enjoyed my time.However read an article by David Adjaye in the ARCHSA Architecture South Africa.The article was about the Aza2012 Bienniel Festival conference. Fanuel Motsepe wrote something very potent,what he wrote is something that should be the motive behind the influence of our design as architecture student, he said"As architects in South Africa,to what extent are we responsible agents for the relationship between the people,the built and the natural environments?"
